4 feet of snow last week with massive storm. However ski area was slow to reopen.
Fantastic mountains and pistes
Slow to recover after storms

this is the highest mountain in the Argentinian andes, it has one of the best chairlift in the world (marte chairlift) allow you to take you to the top and to chose millon endless waaylong pow runs, 2 hours going down in the pow to get to the base. your legs will be so burn that you cant just go down without resting in the middle of the way. It is way more high that any northamerica resort I ve been (squaw valley, northstar, heavenly) the best month to go is august/september (best pow) during july is very windy.
best terrain in south america, best freeride, huge vertical drop, best cliffs
high mountain wind
If you dream of breath taking vistas, mind blowing powder days and bucket loads of fun stop what you are doing, drop everything and head to Las Lenas in Mendoza. I am just back from wonderful trip over there, and I would give my thanks to Las Lenas Ski staff they were so professional. Thank you for all of your help and patience. Summarizing, everything was perfect, we will back for sure.

The Marte lift at Las Lenas accesses the steepest terrain in South America and is one of the best lifts in the world for accessing big mountain terrain........ when it is open. The Marte is Las Lenas marquee lift and the drawing card for some of the best skiers and snowboarders in the world. However the Marte lift is often closed when it is storming, windy or the avalanche danger is substantial. I once spent 10 days digging this lift out. Las Lenas is best if you can spend weeks here. It is hard to get to and if the Marte is closed for most of the week that you are scheduled to be there it is a bummer. There is certainly a reason why so many professional skiers and snowboarders wind up here, the terrain is sick!!!!! If you are willing to make the commitment to get here- 7 hours from Mendoza- and are prepared to be shut down with down days than Lenas is a sweet spot. If you have limited time it is a long way from everywhere. Lenas draws the wealthy from Buenos Aires so there is a fun party scene but the resort is expensive compared with all the other resorts in South America.
Marte Lift when running
Marte lift when closed, Difficult to get to
Las Lenas is one of the coolest places I have ever been skiing. The terrain is sick! Lots of ripping lines, lots of peaks and tours to do. Incredible lines with no one around. The great majority of this is only accessible if the MARTE chair is open. Out of 8 days there, the MARTE chair was only running 3 days. But those 3 days were awesome. That is the one thing you have to work with and gamble on. Good runs of VULCANO lift too if you are willing to hike. Kept us entertained for a few days, but got old hiking a lot. There isn't very much night life there... cheap beer though! And the women are the most beautiful I have ever seen. Wow. It is quite the trek to get down there too - we took the 16 hour bus from Buenos Aires, but was totally worth it. Definitely an awesome experience. This place is all about the skiing - if you are looking for anything else like nightlife, culture, food, nice groomers, etc you are in the wrong place. And you have to like wind, a lot. You can definitely count on it being windy the entire time you are there. But if you are able to get some MARTE days out of the trip, everything is worth it. We are avid backcountry skiers and mountaineers, so it was a great spot for us. Many of the rowdiest lines I have ever skied. Don't think it would be that great for a beginner or intermediate skier though. We are already planning a trip for next year!

I have had some of the best ski days of my life in Las Lenas since going the first time in 2001. It is by far the best advanced/expert terrain in the world for a ski resort, where you can ski right off the high alpine chair Marte and ski whatever you want, just need to sign a waiver that says you can't sue the resort if you hurt yourself out of bounds. Due to its high elevation you are normally guaranteed good snow for your ski week. The only downfall to Las Lenas is that it is not the best organized resort and the chairs are very old and can be slow, and sometimes not open. When the upper mountain is not open the lower mountain can have long lines. To get up to the infamous Marte chair you need to take 2 slow doubles. When Las Lenas is on with good snow condtitions though and no lines, it is amazing. Accommodation prices have gone up quite a bit in 2008 so if looking for economic option there is staying 15 minutes away in Los Molles in cabins or 45 minutes away in Malargue.
i had a great time at las leñas this last summer. i was abl to improve greatly on my skiing abilities, and i will probably choose to repeat the experience next year. i wish the snow to be as good as in 2007
I was there for a full week package in Sept. with my 5 year old son and we both had a ball. Costs are low and the Apt. we stayed in was more then adequite. We loved the accomidations and the ski school for children is wonderful. While lines were at times long we managed to enjoy ourselves greatly. I would highly recomend Las Lenas to anyone who enjoys world class skiing. It was a breathtaking view and runs were long.
